Super Secret Swag Documents

In which Jennnanigans recounts the story of how she unexpectedly received some awesome promotional material from The Shape of Water, owing to a recent viewing and review. The material was not requested and was a total surprise upon arrival. Jennnanigans was not paid or compensated for this blog entry in any way.

Good morning and happy Friday!

Last night while watching a video on bullet journaling, I heard a knock at my front door. Expecting a belated Xmas gift, I was surprised to find a long, rectangular package with a return address reading Fox Searchlight Pictures. I was further surprised to find the package was addressed to me, at this blog title.

Anyway, when I opened the package….

In Theaters Now: The Shape of Water

I want you to know three things about The Shape of Water.

They are, in no particular order, that it is:

  1. Beautiful, lyrical, and absolutely deserving of the buzz surrounding it; the fact that there is so much buzz around it and that people are appreciative of such a daring story is wonderful.
  2. Marvelous, in that it literally contains marvels of all sorts. Acting, effects, imagery, characters, sets, dialogue, music, production, you name it, there is something in this movie to dig into.
  3. Inspiring a much, much longer review from my co-blogger Achariya and I that we will hash out tomorrow and post in the next day or so. I will keep general comments above a cut, but deeper discussion will need to contain spoilers so those will go below the cut.

Man. That was something. I cannot WAIT to write more, but it’s late and this sort of thing requires a proper marination of the brainmeats before anything can be said.

Happy Wednesday!

This week will be a busy one – I’m seeing The Shape of Water, which I’m really looking forward to based on all the buzz surrounding it and because I love Del Toro. I’m also figuring out my Star Wars: The Last Jedi plans. Some places near me be will be showing the latter Thursday night, which I prefer to the massive presses of people in theaters on weekends.

Also, Xmas stuff, like wrapping and mailing presents, and non-Xmas stuff, working on my novel draft and some other writing projects.

Here is the International Trailer for Black Panther, which got me all het up this morning.

I feel bad for laughing at the narration at the end, but I did. My friend, who speaks a little Japanese, wrote it out as BU RA KU PANSA.

Stuff I have watched:

Happy Friday the 13th!

Apologies for missing my second entry last week – my review of 2014 British horror movie The Forgotten will be posted NEXT Monday morning. I’ve been traveling for work lately and unfortunately between that and lots of other stuff (fighting practice, the gym, writer’s group, family stuff, friend stuff, life stuff) I haven’t had the mental energy to sit down and really dive into a movie. But more reviews are coming! Horror movie month is TOO IMPORTANT for me to fall down on the job!

In the meantime, please enjoy this delightful music video about Russian history*.

*It was a joke. I am kidding. Putin hasn’t destroyed the Earth with his fire dance moves… YET.

Horror On the Horizon!

Next week is Netflix Indie Week, with such offerings as bro-heavy found footage frightfest V/H/S, and crummy council flat escapade The Forgotten.

Good morning! I hope this post finds you well-rested and ready to face whatever this day shall bring!

For the last several years, I’ve dedicated the month of October to one of my great loves in life… horror movies. I’ve fallen off blogging a lot this year for various reasons, but I am dead set on keeping up with this tradition. I WON’T CRAP OUT AGAIN. It’s my intent that these reviews be at least, if not more, entertaining as the movies they cover.

So stay tuned! Next week is Netflix Indie Week, with such offerings as bro-heavy found footage frightfest V/H/S, and crummy council flat escapade The Forgotten. As always, I do my best to be both fair to the filmmakers AND entertaining in my reviews.

And to celebrate, please enjoy my favorite tweet ever from Pennywise Dancing, Numa Numa. This has been playing in my head nonstop since last week, and it’s kept me sane in the face of a severely depressing news cycle.

See you next week!
